Redline - Ignition (Release Year - 2007)

After one listen to the debut effort by United Kingdom’s hard rockers, Redline, I wish I could pack my bags and move to Europe to start up a new Hard Rock Record Label. It is mind blowing to me at times, that so many new hard rock bands can reproduce that great style of ’80’s hard rock. Too many new bands are not getting the exposure they deserve and Redline is one of them!
Redline has a sound that is well rooted in 80’s hard rock. Singer Liam Doherty has a sound that is similar to C.J. Snare from Firehouse, but this band rocks as hard as Lynch era Dokken. Does the sound work? You bet it does!
Ignition rocks hard all the way through, and there isn’t a bad song in the bunch! “King of the Mountain” starts Ignition off right with a good head banging tune that will put a smile on the face of most hard rock fans. By the time you get done listening to “No Limits” and “Twistin’ The Knife”, you may have to put the CD on pause and go find yourself a neck brace.
Lucky for you, the band slows it down with the highly enjoyable ballad “Cold Silence“.
The pace picks back up with “High Price to Pay” and bewilders your senses right through the final cut “Ride“.
I love this CD, and I think both new rock fans and 80’s hard rock fans are going to love this disc!

Review Paul Williams

No nonsense. That’s the phrase that immediately springs to mind when you hear Birmingham based rockers Redline and their debut album, Ignition.

Redline comprise members forged in the NWOBHM era who play an uncompromising, unashamedly raw and direct brand of hard rock. There are clearly no airs and graces to this lot and I can’t imagine them apologising for that – and nor should they.

The band formed in 2006, releasing an EP, “King Of The Mountain” which is also the leadoff track on this album.

It quickly became the unofficial anthem of The Isle Of Man TT Road Races, helping make the band firm favourites within the biker community and at many a rock and bike gathering. Second track, “No Limits” was also a hit at the TT Centenary celebrations earlier this year and the band gained decent reviews from their performance at the inaugural Hard Rock Hell “boot camp” at Butlins, Minehead this last weekend.

The music is nothing new and is not going to revolutionise the music scene. What it is though is extremely well played and in vocalist Liam Doherty, Redline have a singer perfect for fronting this type of band and who would undoubtedly be equally at home in a live setting. He is a cut above the majority of singers that used to frequent this genre, as exemplified in particular on slower track, “Cold Silence”.

The band are certainly a throwback to yesteryear, but the decent production brings new life to the style and guitarist A.D. certainly delivers enough quality riffs to again lift the band above the average.

I’ve heard a few NWOBHM-styled albums this year, in particular in the form of reissues from that period, but I have to say that this is easily the best thing I’ve heard in the genre. To be fair, it’s not the type of thing I would normally choose to listen to, but if I am ever in the mood for some good, old-fashioned no frills rock, then I would not hesitate to reach for this album.

Definitely recommended for all you “old-school” rock fans out there…although any fans of quality, melodic-tinged, hard rock should check it out too.

Here’s a hot new british indie CD that will please fans of no frills hardrock along the lines of DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB or SAXON. The riff ladden opener “King Of The Mountain” (like a mix of WHITESNAKE and LYNCH MOB) sets the tone for the album which consists of 10 tracks of which there’s no filler to be found. On faster paced songs like “No Limits” or “High Price To Pay” bands like SAXON or even JUDAS PRIEST come to my mind while the more melodic stuff (“Twistin’ The Knife”, “Heaven’s Gate”) is at home in DOKKEN territory. “Coast To Coast” features a total DEF LEPPARD riff and “Cold Silence” is an ultra melodic semi ballad which could be another new DOKKEN tune. For an indie the production which includes many layered backing vocals is surprisingly good and with Liam Doherty REDLINE have the perfect hardrock vocalist. Highly recommended!

Wow! Heavy guitars start and massive drums hammer on top. In other words, Redline put their foot straight on the accelerator and send ‘King of the Mountain’ on the ‘race track’ first. This ace tune shows strong parallels to T.T. Quick (The New Jersey Band with the Metal classic, ‘Metal of Honor’ from 1986), came out in 2006 on the EP of the same name. 2006, the founding year of this British band, saw the tune turn into the unofficial anthem of the Isle of Man TT Road Races (this is the world’s biggest street motorbike race, held on the Isle of Man , an island in the middle of the Irish Sea between Great Britain and  Ireland .) On YouTube you can check out the promotional video.

‘No limits’ burns rubber, a Saxon like driving power tune that should get any biker party started properly. The music is professional, well arranged and simply blasts out from the speakers! All band members have been involved with various projects including Chainsaw and Slowburner. Mark Biddiscombe (drums) and Martin Orum (bass) were also in charge of the rhythm section on the album ‘Predator’ by the cult band Bitches Sin, and now no less than producer god Chris Tsangarides is involved with this legendary outfit. Singer Liam Doherty, who roars like a mix between Biff Byford (Saxon) and C. J. Snare (Firehouse) was with Love and War previously.

The soul of the album is its spontaneity. Best proof of this is the half ballad Cold Silence, that starts unspectacularly only to end in a really catchy Heavy Rocker (what early Stryper knew how to do to perfection), and also, the Dokken sounding mid-paced track, ‘Twistin' the Knife’. Dirty hardrock of the Thunderhead variety is offered with the following song, ‘High Price To Pay', before you can rock on down again with ‘Some Kinda´ Mean' in typical Saxon style. Fast and really heavy next with ’Straight Between The Eyes' that sounds like a blasting Dio number with hot Priest guitars. There’s a good time feel with the Def Leppard like ‘Coast To Coast’ and ‘Heaven’s Gate', a really catchy tune squeezed into a hard rock format which is reminiscent of Winger or Warrant before the race finishes, again Saxon-style, with Ride.

Wow! Projekten tätig waren (u.a. Chainsaw, Slowburner). REDLINE 'IGNITION' (ANTARCTIC RECORDS/REDLINE ROCK)

Birmingham/UK has always been a very important city for Rock and Metal, with
now another addition in the shape of REDLINE, a band playing high class
Classic 80s inspired Melodic Hardrock, which is not far away removed from
JADED HEART, HEAVEN'S EDGE and DOKKEN. The band is made up by some veterans
of the legendary 80s UK scene, with even members that played in legendary
NWOBHM band BITCHES SIN. Anyway, with REDLINE they might have released their
strongest effort so far, like said, a true Melodic Hardrock gem that with
songs like "King of the mountain", "Twistin' the knife" and "Straight
between the eyes" definitely wet the appetite of any JADED HEART fan out
there. Not only does the music rock, instrumental it sounds quite perfect
and the whole packaging is as good as any label release out there, so
without a doubt this REDLINE is worth checking out asap at:
http://www.myspace.com/redlinerockuk and www.redlinerock.com and e-mail

STRUTTER MAGAZINE • HOLLAND

The line up of the awesome British Steel Festival, Witchfynde, Praying
Mantis, Elixir, Redline, Laydrive has been known for a short time. Here we
are talking about Redline, reviewing their new album "Ignition". I saw this
band live last 10th of November in England at Minehead during the wonderful
Hard Rock Hell Festival. I didn't know who they were, but I saw a band who
were playing powerful 70's and 80's style Hard Rock.  Redline, an unknown
name to me but, I repeat, I remained amazed!

But who is Redline?

In 2006, Adrians Yeomans (guitar) and Paul Bridgewater (voice) joined the
band and Redline was officially founded. Then the singer Liam Doherty
replaced Bridgewater for the recording sessions of the new "Ignition" album.

The album opens with "King Of Mountain", a powerful Hard Rock track with a
great initial riff, a beautiful voice with some melodic cues every so often.
During the solo it's clear what a great guitarist Yeomans is!

"No Limits" starts with a rhythmic section that would be the envy of the
best known ones, Liam's warm, bluesy and slightly hoarse voice embellishes
this track continuously supported by very strong riffing.

"Twistin' The Knife" starts again with the usual great riff (Yeomans must
have listened to Iommi for a long time), the rhythm is a bit slower with a
sound that's closer to the 80's American Hard Rock if compared to the two
previous tracks.

"Cold Silence", arpeggio for what it seems to be a first-rate ballad with a
solo reminding of the 70's big six-string masters. The second faster solo is
very beautiful, terrific (only Michael Schenker in his best times played
such solos).

"High Price To Pay", a come-back to the Hard Rock sonorities which could
belong to a Rainbow album of the early 80's.

"Some Kinda' Mean" starts with the usual great riff and the voice of Doherty
is "nastier" to become soft during the refrain, but - be it clear - no
dull or AOR like melodies. Here Hard Rock rules!

"Straight Between The Eyes", a title that reminds us of the historical
Rainbow album of 1982. Is it a coincidence?

"Coast To Coast" is maybe the easiest going track of the whole album. Nice
song.

"Heaven's Gate" starts with Doherty's voice very near to J.L. Turner's one.
However, despite the usual riffing, the sweet notes have the lion's share
and we can even find a very marked rhythm.

"Ride", the last track of the album with a come-back to the Hard sound of
the beginnings. I may be boring, but we can't often find so beautiful solos
in these times where distortions are very popular.

Finally, I would suggest the purchase of this CD without any doubt. Of
course it isn't the best Heavy Metal album ever produced, but it's surely a
great Hard Rock piece with more than one Heavy tone which further enriches a
still great 2007!

P.S.: At British Steel Festival they will be great as they were at Hard Rock
Hell Festival. Guaranteed!

Ps
Al British Steel spaccheranno come hanno fatto all’Hard Rock Hell, garantito!

Redline is one of the most talented bands to burst onto the scene. The band's debut release,'Ignition' is good old fashion, in-your-face rock that takes no prisoners from start to finish ! In this dying need of pure adrenaline, attitude and fist raising rock, Redline is the answer we all have been waiting for. Finally, BALLS TO THE WALLS ROCK is back!

Tony Sison The Atomic Chaser, THE DRP/All Access Magazine USA

I heard about this band & bought the CD from their website. This really is a class band & the songs are so good & melodic as well. This is what I call damn good stadium rock. There is not a bad tune on the whole album. It opens up with a song written for the Isle of Man TT races, apparently it was the unoffical anthem for 2007, along with No limits. This song really motors and is what classic rock music is about; howling guitars, pumping bass, thundering drums & a singer with such power in his voice. Reminds me of Glenn Hughes. The whole CD is pretty much written about the motorcycle life style & is an absolute must for rock fans & bikers who like proper rock.

Hard Rock Hideout’s Top 15 Albums of 2007!

2007 has been a very strong year for rock, and it was quite difficult narrowing down the list down to a top 10. Even 15 picks didn’t seem like enough, but finally some discs rose above all others.

There are many discs that didn’t make the top 15, but there are several released in 2007 that are worth checking out.

The following discs get Honorable Mentions:

Redline – Ignition

http://hardrockhideout.wordpress.com/2007/12/28/hard-rock-hideouts-top-15-albums-of-2007/

British Steel Festival, Camden Underworld, London, UK

Opening band ‘Redline’ from the West Midlands come on stage with a large amount of dry ice.

‘Redline’ produce really good proper hard rock. This band have already been adopted by the Isle of Man TT Races for one of their tunes (‘King of the Mountain’) as a theme.

If you want something to compare them too, simply classic hard rock like ‘Chariot’ with some heavier moments of ‘Journey’ thrown in. Their singer Liam Doherty is a great showman, throwing shapes and having perfect hard rock vocals. Martin Orum on bass stands there almost motionless while banging away at the bass. The guitar solos are great and well constructed. A new track ‘Black Sky’ just gives a good positive feel to the start of this day.
